Connect to VPN on Android mobiles

Previously, we have covered what VPNs are and how you can easily connect to them in Windows. Android also supports VPNs – if you have an Android phone or tablet, you can easily connect it to a VPN.
VPNs on Android have a variety of uses, including downloading apps not available in your country, encrypting your browsing on public Wi-Fi, or just connecting to a company network on the road.

OpenVPN Networks & VPN Apps

Android does not include integrated support for OpenVPN servers. If you use an OpenVPN network, you will need to install a third-party app. OpenVPN Connect, OpenVPN’s official app, works on Android 4.0 and higher and does not require root. To connect to an OpenVPN network on a device running Android 2.3 or older, you will need to root your device.

Depending on the VPN you are using, you may need a dedicated VPN app instead of the VPN support integrated into Android. For example, TunnelBear offers an Android app that handles TunnelBear VPN connections.

Integrated VPN Support

Android has integrated support for PPTP and L2TP VPNs. You can connect to these types of VPNs without installing any third-party apps.
To connect to a compatible VPN, open the Settings app and tap More under Wireless & networks. (On Android 2.3, tap Wireless & networks.)

Tap the VPN option on the Wireless & networks screen. (On Android 2.3, tap VPN Settings.)

Tap the + button and provide the VPN’s details. Enter a name to help you remember which VPN is which into the Name field, select the type of VPN server you’re connecting to, and enter the VPN server’s address (either an address like vpn.example.com or a numerical IP address).

Tap the VPN to connect once you have set it up. You can have multiple VPN servers configured and switch between them from the VPN screen.
You will need the username and password your VPN requires when you connect. However, you can save this account information for next time.

While connected to a VPN, you will see a persistent “VPN activated” notification in your notifications drawer. To disconnect, tap the notification and tap Disconnect.

Always-On VPN Mode

Android 4.2 includes the option to enable always-on VPN mode. When this option is enabled, Android will never allow data to be sent except over the VPN. This can be useful if you are using public Wi-Fi and want to ensure your VPN is always used.
To enable this option, you must first connect to a VPN and save your account information. You will then find the option under the menu button.

Again, this feature is only offered in Android 4.2, so you won’t see it if your smartphone or tablet uses an older version of Android.

How to Fix Airtel 3G Slow Internet Problem

The first thing you have to keep in mind is, Airtel 3G services will not be active in all places you travel. These services are restricted to 3G and 2G zones. Which means, when you are in a Airtel 3G zone, you will have access to 3G network. Other times, you have to adjust with 2G network. Airtel will automatically shift the services from 3G to 2G networks. Usually this will happen due to weak 3G signals. Now you might be wondering, How can I find out whether I am in 3G zone or in a 2G zone? Well, this is pretty simple. Your Airtel 3G dongle comes with a back light under it. You can actually see any one of the Green or Blue lights in it. So whenever it is green, it indicates a 2G network. And whenever it is Blue, i af0 t’s a 3G network. These colors are automatically seen when you connect your Airtel 3G dongle to Internet. However, if you are use any Universal 3G Dongle, the procedure is different.

Steps to Tweak your Airtel 3G Connection Manager for Higher 3G Speeds

Step 1: Open your Airtel 3G connection manager and connect to Internet.

Step 3: Once you clicked on Options, you can find Network option to the left. Click on it to see the Network Type Settings and Registration Mode.

Step 4: Change the setting to WCDMA only in the Network Type section. And leave the Band as All Bands.

Steps 5: Now click on Registration Mode and Change the settings to Manual search and register.

Click on refresh below to show the list of available networks. You will find a Airtel (3G) operator name as seen in above screenshot. Now click on it and register the network. Click on OK and try to open any page.
After this tweak, you will observe the download and upload speeds getting much better. Try this tweak with your Airtel 3G dongle and let me know if it’s working for you. Even after this tweak, if you find your Internet 3G speed is low, then either you are not in a 3G zone, or you have not registered with a 3G network as shown in step 5.
If none of this works, I recommend you uninstall your drivers completely and install them again. This is one way of checking whether the software is installed properly or not. Memory Card Problems and Solutions

Memory card corrupted? Don’t panic just yet! Often, while transferring data if the memory card is taken out or if the power is shut off, it tends to get corrupted and unusable. We’re going to tell you how to fix corrupted memory cards, using a few common solutions that could solve your problem. But keep in mind that completely destroyed or physically damaged memory cards cannot be fixed easily, neither can data recovery be done from them other than using professional data recovery solutions which can be really expensive. For situations where the memory card is not recognized or cannot be used due to incorrect formatting, here’s what you need to do!

Problem 1 – Memory card can be read but not accessed

When you take out a memory card during data transfer, the file structure can get scrambled and ultimately, your device or PC might not be able to read any data from it. However, the actual data is still present in it. This memory card corrupted can be fixed by the doing the following:

• Step 1 – Plug in the memory card via an adapter, card reader or any way you can to your computer.
• Step 2 – Check if the memory card shows up in File Explorer, it most probably won’t be accessible but will have the right file system and everything. Note the drive letter path.
• Step 3 – Open command prompt, preferably as Administrator and typed “chkdsk x: /r” without the quotes. Here, X is the drive letter of your memory card.
• Step 4 – Let the process complete. If it asks to “convert lost chains to files”, type “y” for yes.

If only the file structure was damaged but not the files themselves, you will be able to get back all your files and use the memory card like normal again. Yep, the usually annoying CheckDisk tool can fix one memory card corrupted problem!

Problem 2 – Memory card shows invalid file system (RAW)

A corrupted memory card can also lose its file system and cannot be used because it’s not in a file system that Windows recognizes. The simplest solution for this memory card corrupted problem is a format. Here’s how you go about it:

• Step 1 – Connect your memory card to PC via adapter/card reader.
• Step 2 – Locate the removable storage media in file explorer, right click it and click “Format”.
• Step 3 – Set the file system to “FAT”, not FAT32, NTFS, exFAT or anything else as most portable devices are compatible only with the FAT file system. Leave the allocation unit size as it is and uncheck “Quick format”.
• Step 4 – Click format, let it finish and your memory card should be good as new!

Of course, formatting a memory card erases all data so make sure that you have a backup or you have recovered the data.

Problem 3 – Memory card cannot be read by PC

Even a problem like this one can be fixed quite easily by simply downloading updated drivers from your PC manufacturer. Always make sure you have the latest drivers and updates and if you’re running an assembled PC, grab the latest motherboard drivers.
There af0 could be another problem as well. Newer cards are SDHC (high capacity) and are not readable on regular SD card readers. Make sure to get a SDHC card reader and updated drivers for it installed in your PC if you want to access the memory card on your PC. It’s the same case with the really high capacity SDXC (Extra capacity) cards.
If none of these are the cases, and even after the obligatory plugging in all ports doesn’t work, then do the following:

• Step 1 – Insert the memory card into the card reader/adapter and plug it in to your PC.
• Step 2 – Go to Device Manager via Control Panel and look for any devices that show up with a yellow exclamation mark (!).
• Step 3 (a) – Right click the faulty device and try to automatically update drivers. If you are unable to, uninstall it, remove your device and restart computer. Alternatively, you could also right click and click “Scan for hardware changes” once it’s uninstalled.
• Step 3 (b) – If your device still doesn’t show up, go to the “View” tab and click “Show hidden devices”. Now you might be able to see more faulty or greyed out devices. Right click, uninstall them and restart your computer with the device unplugged.
• Step 4 – Once it’s booted up, plug it in again and it should be recognized.

Oh also, make sure that the little lock on the side of your memory card is not engaged.
The above steps will most probably get your memory card fixed, unless it’s completely damaged. Finally, if nothing works, the only solution is to buy a new memory card.
