Those who have used the Windows 8 dev version were complaining that the popular voip communication client – Skype – was not working properly in Windows 8. You don’t face any installation error, but, it crashes every time you launch the Skype app. I’ve searched for the fix on various forums and finally got the success. You may have downloaded Skype client straight from the official website when you’ve Windows 8 installed on your computer. That’s the main reason it’s not working on Windows 8.
The thing is if you attempt to download Skype currently via Skype.com, the build you’re getting is not 5.5.117, but rather a much earlier build, 5.3. This build will work in a “run once” type of scenario where it will run on first launch, but crash every launch afterwards.
So you need to download and install the latest version of Skype i.e Skype 5.5.117 to get Skype working on Windows 8. To ensure you get the right installation package (one that WORKS), follow this link to get Skype 5.5.117 full installer:
Now it should be working fine on Windows 8. If you’re still having issues, make sure you first uninstall the older version of Skype before installing the new version. I’d suggest that you should also manually delete all the Skype files after uninstalling previous version. To do so, go to the following path and delete the Skype folder. Try opening Skype from the metro interface.
